The Birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh
Signs of the damage at the base of the large Chestnut, the one nearest the road.
Some of the Chestnut trees on the Pound have unfortunately been infected with Honey Fungus and Canker and the Tree Officer from the EDDC has recommended that the most affected tree should be replaced with a species less prone to disease, such as an Oak. Some of the younger Chestnuts are also affected and he thought that they also would need to be replaced within 10 years. A resident living nearby has most kindly offered to supply an Oak sapling and so we are hoping for a good outcome.

Showing two of our stalwart residents the problem area.
